Bag Balm vs Original Udder Balm: Which Is Better for Dry Skin?

Original Udder Balm vs Bag Balm: What’s the Difference?

If you’ve ever searched for heavy-duty skin care, you’ve probably come across both Original Udder Balm and Bag Balm. Some people think they are the same thing, but they are very different.  These two products share a common history in farming, but over the years they’ve taken very different paths. Both are trusted names, yet they’re not the same — and depending on your skin care needs, one may be a better fit for you.

A Quick History

  • Original Udder Balm was developed in the 1970s as a moisturizer for dry, cracked skin, both on the farm and at home. It has been produced in the U.S. for decades by a family-owned company committed to safe, simple, and effective skincare.

  • Bag Balm, first introduced in 1899, was originally designed for soothing cow udders. It is still produced by a Vermont-based company and sold in its signature green tin.
